Toru Kido is a Kempeitai corporal and Takeshi Kido's eldest son. He is a decorated veteran of the Manchurian campaign, however, he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder due to his experiences there.

Biography

Season Four

Toru accompanied his father and Captain Ijima as the Kempeitai raided a warehouse. As Ijima assaulted Mingus Jones, a drop of Jones' blood fell on Toru's face and triggered his stress disorder. Kido dismissed his son after he noticed him panicking.

Kido set Toru up to an interview with a Japanese military officer. He experienced another panic attack after he pinned his medallion to his chest, and subsequently avoided going to the interview. After Kido came to know about this, Toru asked for forgiveness, saying that he was too weak, but Kido told him that weak men don't become war heroes.

Unable to bear his stress disorder, Toru began to frequent the Yakuza-owned Bamboo Palace. He experienced an attack while in the club, and reflexively attacked and killed a bouncer. The Yakuza apprehend him and planned on killing him, but after Okami recognized his war hero status, he was spared. They released Toru after his father intervened.

As time progressed, Toru began to frequent the Bamboo Palace and soon developed an opioid addiction. Unable to fund his addiction, he was taken prisoner by the Yakuza. To secure his freedom, he offered to work as an assassin for them, but he was turned down.

After the Japanese evacuation from the Pacific States was nearly done, Kido noticed that his son was not among the evacuees, and found out that he was slaving to the Yakuza. He confronted Okami at the Bamboo Palace, and he agreed to join the Yakuza as Okami's subordinate in order to secure his son's freedom.

Toru saluted his father as his boat departed from San Francisco to Japan.
