The Imperial Guard (近衛師団; Konoe Shidan) is an elite branch of the Imperial Japanese Army dedicated to the protection of the Imperial Family of Japan and their properties.
History[]
In the Season One episode "Revelations" the Imperial Guard protected Crown Prince Akihito as he visited San Francisco, Japanese Pacific States in 1962, augmenting the police and Kempeitai forces present. Despite strict security measures, the Crown Prince was shot by a disguised German SS officer while addressing the public at the Nazi Embassy. The prince survived the attempt.
For his failure to protect the Prince, an Imperial Guard leader was forced to commit seppuku.
