Sergeant Hiroyuki Yoshida was a member of the Kempeitai and the right-hand man of Chief Inspector Takeshi Kido. Yoshida was tasked with the dirty work for the Japanese police force, carrying out numerous investigations, raids, arrests, and executions under Kido's immediate orders. In the Season Two episode Detonation, he is killed by the Resistance's bombing of the Kempeitai headquarters.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Not much is known about Hiroyuki's early life, since it is not fully explained within the series. Though this is what we do know:

[1]Hiroyuki Yoshida, is an American-born citizen, prior to the invasion of both Nazi and Japanese forces during the second world war. As a young child, he was one of the many rounded up in the "Internment" of Japanese-Americans. His father was commonly referred to as a "No No Boy" since when the Japanese had been incarcerated he said no to Question 27 (Are you willing to serve in the armed forces?) and Question 28 (Will you swear unqualified allegiance to the United States and not to the Japanese emperor?) Whereas, his uncle had joined the 442nd an infantry unit comprised of Japanese-Americans. He ended up siding with his father, and when Japanese troops made a land invasion of the United States. They liberated the internment camps. Freeing young Yoshida.

Growing up, deeply betrayed by the Old United States, he decides to join the Kempeitai in the Pacific States. To which sooner or later, becomes the right-hand man to Chief Inspector Takeshi Kido.

In Season Two, Episode Two, "The Road Less Travelled" Yoshida is seen first with Chief inspector Kido, after he launches an investigation into a shootout that occured at a Kempeitai outpost by members of the resistance, to where he discovers the body of Karen Vecchione Kido calls up Yoshida to launch reprisals into San Francisco in response to the recent attack. To which he does successfully.

In Season Two, Episode Nine "Detonation", Yoshida is one of the few members residing in a meeting inside the Kempeitai Headquarters, discussing movements and attacks of Resistance members. He remains mostly quiet but intentive to the meeting. Later, when Frank Frink and Sarah Murakami sucessfully plant a bomb in the parking lot sector of the headquarters. Eventually coming into contact with Kido and Yoshida, Frank is first to shoot at the Chief Inspector to which Yoshida quickly runs into the way of, protecting him. And eventually, the bomb in the parking lot explodes just as this happens. Kido then wakes up, surrounded and himself covered in the debris. Sees Hiroyuki Yoshida laying motionless, head being bloody and presumed dead.

  • The name "Hiroyuki" means "command, esteem" (博) ("hiro") and "this" (之) ("yuki").
    • Hiroyuki's surname "Yoshida" means "lucky, good" (吉) ("yoshi") and "field, rice paddy" (田) ("ta"/"da").
